TheDryLandMovie is a small, independent site about films — what is worth two hours of an evening, and what is not. There is no scoring system here, no star ratings and no aggregate percentage. Just a considered opinion, written by someone who watched the whole thing.
Where we put our attention
Roughly half of what we publish covers whatever has just arrived in cinemas or landed on a streaming service. The rest goes to films that never got a fair hearing the first time: the festival titles that vanished after a fortnight, the genre pictures dismissed on release, the sequels that turned out better than anyone expected. Horror, animation, awards drama and popcorn spectacle all get taken equally seriously.
What a review here promises
- An answer to the obvious question. Whether the film works, said plainly, in the first paragraph — not buried under three paragraphs of plot summary.
- No accidental spoilers. If a twist has to be discussed, it is announced before it is discussed. You can stop reading at the warning and still know whether to watch.
- Honesty about fit. Very few films are good or bad for everyone. We would rather say who a film is for, and who will be bored by it, than pretend there is a single verdict.
- A second look. Opinions change. When a film grows or shrinks on rewatching, we say so instead of defending the original take.
The marathon planner
Alongside the reviews there is a movie marathon planner — a small tool for working out what actually fits into an evening, an afternoon or a very long Sunday, runtimes and intervals included. It runs entirely in your browser and keeps nothing.
Who writes this
Reviews are written and edited by the TheDryLandMovie editorial team. The site carries advertising, which is what pays for hosting; it does not accept payment for a favourable review, and nothing here is a press release rewritten. Where an opinion is unusually contrarian, we try to say so plainly rather than present it as settled fact. Corrections are welcome and acted on — the contact page explains how to send one.
